Bordered by France and Spain in the eastern Pyrenees, Andorra is a principality in Western Europe, also known as the Principality of the Valleys to give an indication of its natural beauty. With a population below 100,000 people, it is nevertheless a wealthy country due to its status as a tax haven and thanks to its tourist industry and great winter sports facilities. Particularly noteworthy are the Church of Sant Juan de Caselles in Andorra la Vella (the country’s Capital and only town), and the main local religious building of Sant Esteve Church, built in the 12th century.
The Casa de la Vall in the Capital also merits a visit. Built in 1580 and originally belonging to a noble family, the building is now the seat of government. Then of course there are the principality’s hotels. Ranging from 2 to 5 star, and including luxury spa options, you’ll find facilities for every taste and budget.
Popular for skiing and snowboarding holidays, Andorra is also famed for having over 2000 shops. This makes the small country a shopaholic’s dream. In recent years, Andorra has also invested over €50 million in mountain restaurants and cafes, gondolas and chairlifts, plus car parking facilities and snow machines to prolong the season.
