What to do in Luxor

Luxor is a pleasant and manageable city located on the River Nile, and is built over the site of Thebes, the famous ancient capital of Egypt during the New Dynasty. As a result, the city has some of the most impressive ruins you will find anywhere in Egypt. Any visitor to Luxor should therefore start their sightseeing tour at the Karnack Temple - which has a particularly fascinating open-air museum. Indeed, many tourists have described the whole Luxor experience as being like a vast living museum of history.

Luxor does welcome quite a large number of tourists annually, but you’ll probably find the best time to go is the winter - or at least not in the peak of the summer. If you’re going to be walking around and exploring the sights, which indeed are numerous, then you may find it almost too hot in the height of summer. Winter is still typically very warm, almost comparable to an English summer, so you never need to worry about a lack of sunshine when you visit this memorable destination.

How to get to Luxor

The city is served by Luxor International Airport, which has regular flights to a number of cities in the United Kingdom including London and Manchester. Flights tend to be reasonable in value, and the airport is only six kilometres away from the city itself. Flights are often included with a special package deal, which can also feature your hotel, transfers, drinks and meals. You can also opt for a Nile cruise to see a different side of the city too.
