La Caleta was until fairly recently a small fishing village on the south-west coast of Tenerife. As a consequence, La Caleta has the feel of a quaint town with a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the more lively resorts further to the south. Despite its relatively small size, the resort does have a full range of hotels, villas and apartments. La Caleta is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. This is not the resort for those wanting to pack their days with non-stop activities. La Caleta is more for those who like to relax and savour rather than gorge themselves on non-stop activity. The restaurants and bars reinforce this ‘feelgood factor’ as they are based around the seafront with fantastic views over the bay. Many of the restaurants take advantage of their proximity to the sea and are noted for their high quality fish and seafood dishes. Piscis, Masia del Mar, La Caleta Bar, La Vieja, and El Celso are a few of these popular fish restaurants.
If you can overcome the desire to simply sit and watch the world go round, there are plenty of things to do in La Caleta. Leisurely walks can be taken along the coast heading towards Playa de las Americas or to the next resort, Playa del Duque. This path also continues all the way to Los Cristianos. There are also walks that take in the nearby coves – some frequented by nudists. The 27-hole golf course of Costa Adeje is close by. As well as providing superb golfing, it also has spectacular views over the mountains.
