Where To Go On Holiday in September

Sunny destinations for a week away in September

As August comes to an end and the new school year begins September is a great time to book a holiday. The weather for September holidays, particularly in the Southern Mediterranean, is often ideal as the scorching summer temperatures enjoyed in many destinations over the summer begin to drop. Package holiday prices in September are also much more favourable – particularly when the school holidays have come to an end which is usually in the first week of the month.   The mad dash to find a space on the beach or sun bed to throw your towel are also a distant memory in September as the crowds begin to thin out at resorts across Europe.

Here is our list of the best places to go for a sunshine holiday in September. There are no surprises in our list – just a guarantee that these destinations will have a very, very good chance that the weather will be kind to you whether you travel at the beginning or the end of September. Obviously we are not psychic weather gurus so there may be a chance that you will get the odd rain shower or even a thunderstorm if you are unlucky but generally speaking it should be safe to pack your budgie smugglers. Our list is in no particular order as these are all top quality holiday hotspots.

Cyprus
Cyprus

September is a wonderful time to get away to Cyprus for a week or two. It is still hot but the really scorching summer sun is not so oppressive.   From September and into the autumn there is no hopping across the baking sand like a deranged ostrich – you can actually walk on it in bare feet and leisurely (almost) make your way to the still very pleasant sea for a dip.  All the holiday resorts in Cyprus are still well and truly open for business in September so you won’t find shops or attractions closed and all the usual water sports will be available along the beaches. Average daytime temperatures in September are a toasty 25°C.

Malta
Malta

Malta has been enjoying a renaissance over the last few years as work to spruce up the holiday resorts over the last 15 years has reached fruition. The super friendly residents in Malta welcome holidaymakers to Bugibba, St Paul’s Bay, Qawra and other resorts across the island making your stay a special and memorable one. Malta is not blessed with many sandy beaches but there are plenty of bathing areas where you can soak up the sun and if you want history & culture you will not be disappointed. Malta is home to the Megalithic Temples, Hal Saflieni Hypogeum and historic city of Valetta – all of which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.   No need to bring your Cardi as September temperatures average 25°C.

Crete
Crete

Some areas of Greece begin to see substantial temperature drops in September but the Southern Greek Island of Crete continues to be blessed with great weather throughout the month of September. Unless a high proportion of kids have been sneaked out of school at the beginning of term the family friendly resorts of Rethymnon and Hersonissos will be mostly frequented by Couples in September whilst the party town of Malia is still bursting at the seams with the young partygoers on group getaways trying to squeeze every ounce of fun out of the many bars and clubs. The water around the island is still warm enough for swimming and average temperatures for September in Crete are a respectable 23.5°C

Majorca
Majorca

Majorca is still kicking in September with plenty of holidaymakers travelling here throughout the month but nowhere near as busy as July & August. As it is such a popular holiday destination there is a huge variety of hotel & apartment accommodation which is rarely full outside the peak summer months so you can get some great deals and offers to resorts across the island – particularly the quieter resorts.   If you are looking for a couples break this September then Majorca should certainly be on your shortlist. You won’t be disappointed when it comes to keeping warm as average daytime temperatures for September are a very nice 21°C.
