What can you do in Luxor?

Many people think of Luxor as a single location. In fact, there are three locations – the City of Luxor on the east the Nile, the town of Karnak just north of Luxor and Thebes, which is on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor. Each of these has its own identity and history – from ancient Egypt through the Greek and Roman empires through to the last vestiges of the British colonialism. Places of particular interest are the Luxor Temple – best visited in the afternoon; the Abu al-Haggag mosque and the Karnak Temple.

Luxor Attractions

A short journey takes you to the famous sites well known to all those who are interested in Egyptology – the Valley of the Kings; the Valley of the Queens; the colossi of Memnon and the Hatshepsut temple. These are best visited as part of an organized tour so that you can get the maximum benefit from understanding their history and for ease of travel. Trips across the Nile are popular as well. In ancient times, this was more than a simple trip over the Nile. The trip represented the journey from life. Today, many people enjoy a trip down the Nile on a faluca, the local boat. A holiday in Luxor can be tailored to meet your needs, whether that is to visit as many historical sites as possible through to complete relaxation - the choice and balance of activities is yours.
